In winter, I hear nothing but complaints from people back home (Milwaukee, WI) about their terrible weather and then they always ask "what is the temperature there (Phoenix)?" Well, as we all know, the winters in Phoenix are great but the winters in the midwest are brutal. However, "what goes around comes around" and we get it back in summer. It's supposed to be in the 110's and above the next few days. But remember, "it's a dry heat."
And now everyone from back home is telling me how "nice" it is there and they ask what the temp is here and say "uggghhhh" and wonder how we can stand it.
Well, let me tell you, it's not all that bad. There are actually some good things about the summers in Phoenix. For one, the extreme heat keeps away many more millions of people who would otherwise relocate here less we become the next LA. A lot of people live here only part of the year and leave in --- you guessed it --- summer. That means it's less crowded and less congested in general, less people on the roadways, less time waiting in line to be seated at restaurants during their busy hours, specials at the numerous resorts and restaurants in town that want to lure in locals at rock bottom prices. And you can drive in heat much easier than you can black ice, snow, sleet, etc. The rainstorms of the monsoon bring some much needed relief in the form of precipitation and make for some interesting sky formations if you're lucky enough to catch them.
And my favorite summer relief -- swimming, especially in a salt water pool. It refreshes the mind, body and soul and allows the body to naturally cool itself.
